Outings for July/ August 2026

Please note that we are unable to provide a driver and minibus for outings in July, August and part of September. The programme is therefore by public transport. The routes have been chosen to be as interesting and accessible as possible, and all trips will be escorted. Holders of Freedom passes and Over 60’s Oyster cards will find them especially good value and we plan to visit some venues which are difficult to reach by minibus.       Maximum 10 members per visit.

1. Wednesday 29th July

Greenwich via Superloop bus and the new Silvertown Tunnel. Meet at Stop Z, College Road at 10.00am via SL9 to Hayes and Harlington station, then Elizabeth Line to Canary Wharf and SL4 to Shooter’s Hill for local bus to Greenwich. After three hours to explore Greenwich, we will return from the newly re-opened Cutty Sark DLR station via Canary Wharf and Jubilee/Met lines to Harrow on the Hill arriving at about 4.30pm. No charge for Freedom Pass and over 60 Oyster Card holders, otherwise a Day Travelcard costs £16.60.

2. Tuesday 4^th August

Brighton by train. This trip had to be postponed from July 11^th when it was too hot.

Meet at stop Z, College Road at 9.30am sharp, from where we will go by bus to Harrow and Wealdstone Station for the train to East Croydon, where we change to a direct train to Brighton arriving at about 12.15pm. Return at 4.14 pm, arriving at Harrow and Wealdstone at 6.14pm and Harrow on the Hill at about 6.30pm. Cost between £18 and £33 depending on  whether you have a Freedom Pass, over 60 Oyster card, or Senior Railcard.

3. Monday 10^th August  Leighton House, The Design Museum and Kyoto Garden, Holland Park. Meet at stop Z College Road at 10.00am, and we will go via SL9 to Northolt station and Central Line.  These three attractions in Kensington make for an interesting day out. Leighton House was the home of Victorian artist Lord Leighton and contains the spectacular Arab Hall and other beautiful rooms. Admission to house £12.25, discount for Art Pass holders. The Design Museum was formerly the Commonwealth Institute and is one of London’s foremost 20^th century buildings. Entry is free. Nearby is the Kyoto Garden, also free to enter and enjoy a tranquil Japanese garden dating from the 1990’s. Travel is free if you have a Freedom Pass or over 60 Oyster card, £15.30 pay-as-you-go, £16.60 Travelcard.

4. Wednesday 26^th August Windsor by train.  Meet at stop Z College Road at 10.00am, for express bus SL9 to Hayes & Harlington station and the Elizabeth Line to Slough. From here it is just six minutes by train to Windsor and Eton Central, the station used by Queen Victoria for her visits there. Arriving just after 11.30 am, we will return at 3.30pm and be back in Harrow shortly after 4.45pm. Cost is £3.80 for the train fare if you have a Freedom Pass, (£2.50 if you also have a Senior Railcard), or £11.70 full fare including buses. Entry to the Castle is £32 if booked in advance, £36 on the day, or £1 if you are on Pension Credit. There are plenty of other things to see and do, including river trips from about £13.  

Please meet by the SILVER BIRCH BUS STOP (stop Z), COLLEGE RD, HARROW, JUST AFTER THE BUS STATION at the times shown. In the event of unforeseen circumstances such as tube strikes or unserviceable lifts, we may have to vary the itinerary and you will be advised before departure if we know of this in advance.
